Roundup: Dine For a Cause, Green Friendly Restaurants Open in DC

  • This week is the Great American Dine Out, a national fund raising drive to help end childhood hunger. Sponsored by Share Our Strength, restaurants throughout the country will donate a share of this week’s profits to the cause. Click here to find a list of participating restaurants in the DC area.
  • Two green-friendly restaurants recently opened in DC. Founding Farmers, located on Pennsylvania Avenue near the GWU campus, is billed as a restaurant of the farmer and for the farmer, serving up fresh and farm inspired food from family farmers, ranches, and fisheries throughout the mid-Atlantic region. It’s also set to become one of the first LEED certified restaurants in the cit.
  • Commisary is the second DC restaurant to open in as many weeks that seeks to promote sustainable food and green operations. Located across from the Whole Foods on P Street, Commissary takes over the  recently closed Merkado space. Opererated by the same owners, Commissary appears to take a more laid back approach as coffee house/bar/restaurant, serving up a reasonably priced menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner throughout the week.
